REX is an internationally acclaimed architecture and design firm based in New York City. Believing architecture should actively empower its users and communities—not simply be a representational art—REX challenges and advances building paradigms and promotes the agency of architecture. This ethos guides the studio’s aspiration to produce inventive designs so functionally specific that they offer new and inspiring aesthetic experiences.

To support new projects in Ireland, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom, we are seeking exceptional architects of all experience levels to join our dynamic and highly focused New York office. Individuals will work within a diverse international team of talented, motivated colleagues and collaborate closely with leadership.

Requirements

Architect/Designer 10+ years:

• Professional degree in architecture; licensure and LEED accreditation strongly desired
• 10+ years of professional experience across all phases of project design, from Concept Design through Construction Administration, including service as Project Architect/Lead and/or Job Captain on a minimum of three projects through all phases
• Exceptional design ability, with a demonstrated interest in innovative design solutions, challenging architectural preconceptions, and advancing architectural typologies
• Ability to develop and coordinate beautiful presentation deliverables (architectural models, 3D views, conceptual diagrams, drawings) within demanding project schedules
• Ability to evaluate, select, and coordinate building systems in alignment with design intent, cost parameters, consultant input, and client directives, including preparation of comprehensive, coordinated Design Development and Construction Documentation sets
• Ability to coordinate project milestones and consultant schedules
• Experience reviewing project cost estimates and construction budgets, and preparing Value Engineering documentation with cost estimators, engineers, contractors, and consultants
• Experience with cultural, institutional, and/or complex commercial projects; experience with U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) or embassies a plus
• Strong skills in client communication, project scheduling, consultant coordination, and construction administration
• Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within collaborative design teams
• Ability to lead junior staff in developing their skills, capabilities, and confidence
• Entrepreneurial, confident, collaborative, and hands-on attitude
• Strong knowledge of building codes, standards, and ADA requirements
• Mastery of AutoCAD and Bluebeam; proficiency in Rhinoceros, Revit, and InDesign a plus
• Fluency in spoken and written English; additional languages beneficial but not required
• Strong professional references

Architect/Designer 5-10 years:

• Professional degree in architecture
• 5+ years of proven professional experience across all phases of project design
• Exceptional design ability, with a demonstrated interest in innovative design solutions, challenging architectural preconceptions, and advancing architectural typologies
• Ability to develop beautiful presentation deliverables (architectural models, 3D views, conceptual diagrams, drawings) within demanding project schedules
• Strong knowledge of architectural practice, particularly from Concept Design through Design Development
• Experience with cultural, institutional, and/or complex commercial projects; experience with U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) or embassies a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with clients, architects, and consultants
• Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work effectively within collaborative design teams
• Entrepreneurial, confident, collaborative, and hands-on attitude

• Strong foundation in architectural practice, with knowledge of Concept Design and Schematic Design demonstrated through professional, internship, or academic experience
• Exceptional design ability, with a demonstrated interest in innovative design solutions, challenging architectural preconceptions, and advancing architectural typologies
• Ability to develop beautiful presentation deliverables (architectural models, 3D views, conceptual diagrams, drawings) within demanding project schedules
• Experience with cultural, institutional, and/or complex commercial projects, especially with U.S. Department of State Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) or embassies, a plus
• Ability to communicate effectively with architects and consultants

Salary Policy & Ranges

REX’s base salary scale is transparent and calibrated to match or surpass the 75th percentile of New York City architect/designer salaries, per the most recent professional salary surveys, with inflation-based increases in non-survey years. Each employee’s position on the scale is determined by years of experience accrued since their first professional degree. Employees with fewer than twenty (20) years of experience move up the scale automatically with each added year, plus additional transparent increases for those who take on leadership roles on a project and/or within the office.

Salary Ranges
Architect/Desinger 20+ years: Negotiated
Architect/Designer 10-20 years: $120,000 – $142,500
Architect/Designer 5-10 years: $87,500 – $117,500
Architect/Desinger 0-5 years: $72,500 – $82,500

Leadership Position Increases Range
$5,000 – $30,000

REX offers a comprehensive benefits package, with a portion outlined below.

Health Insurance
For permanent employees, REX covers comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance up to ~12,000/year—the cost of our mid-level plan. Employees can choose from several plan options and may upgrade to a more expensive plan or add a spouse and/or other dependents at their own additional expense, billed at group rates, pre-tax.

Profit Sharing & Defined Benefit Plans
At its discretion, REX may contribute to its profit-sharing and defined benefit plans on the employee’s behalf at the end of each year. Employees become eligible for these plans upon completing one thousand (1,000) hours of service within their first twelve (12) months of employment.

Parental Leave
After one (1) year of employment, REX offers three (3) months of paid parental leave, to be taken within six (6) months of a child’s birth or adoption.

Licensing Exams, Licensure Dues & LEED Exams
After one (1) year of employment, REX will cover the cost of an employee’s first attempt at each NCARB licensing exam (if not already licensed) and the annual dues for one license, preferably in New York State. REX will also cover the cost of an employee’s first attempt at the LEED Green Associate and/or LEED AP with specialty exams.

Holidays

Office Holidays
Twelve (12) days paid per calendar year, including New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, President’s Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Indigenous Peoples’ Day, Thanksgiving, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day

Paid Time Off (“PTO”)
Twenty (20) days paid per calendar year (accruing at a rate of 1.67 days/month) for employees with more than five (5) years of experience and fifteen (15) days paid per calendar year (accruing at a rate of 1.25 days/month) for employees with fewer than five (5) years of experience. PTO may be used for vacation, personal, and sick days; REX’s mandatory office closure during the winter holidays (approximately 3-5 days, depending on the calendar year and where holidays fall) counts towards these days. PTO is based on the calendar year beginning January 1, with a maximum of two (2) PTO days rolled over into the following year.
